Testors dullcote is by far the best matte varnish out there. I don't use it to protect my minis as much as to give it a uniform sheen (that i can then change again if i want a shiny surface, but i find that shiney is bad when you are trying to do show minis)

I used to work on a uniform army, but found that i wasnt' branching out, so i started doing one off minis, then i just did whatever mini i had on hand, so half my BA are bad, the other half are OK at best.

My future plan is to remake and repaint (mostly replace) my entire BA army, some of them have been made (my magnetic preds, couple of termi squads) if/when the new dex gets here, that way i know that they will be the same for a few years

for learnign how to paint, find poeple you like's stile and follow them:) a lot of painters will tell you almost anythign you need to know, some will tell you everythign you need to know... alot depends on stile you want...

all i know is seeing this SH squad has me going "i think the nids and UM on my desk are going to hade to sit down so i can paint up a few BA... after a few years of not painting any, red calls my name!"
